Product Introduction
Talemod DC SPD (Surge Protective Device) is a critical protection component specifically designed for DC electrical systems. Its core function is to safeguard sensitive electronic equipment in DC power supplies against damage caused by transient overvoltages resulting from lightning strikes or internal switching operations.
Core Functions
Voltage Monitoring & Rapid Response: During normal DC system operation, the SPD remains in a high-impedance state, having no effect on the circuit. When an abnormal transient voltage surge occurs on the line, the SPD responds within nanoseconds, rapidly switching to a low-impedance state.
Energy Diversion & Voltage Clamping: After switching to the low-impedance state, the SPD diverts the dangerous surge current to the ground, preventing it from flowing through the protected equipment. It clamps the voltage across the line (i.e., the residual voltage) to a safe, predetermined value known as the Voltage Protection Level (Up), ensuring the voltage experienced by the equipment remains within safe limits.
Automatic Recovery & Status Indication: Once the surge energy is diverted and the line voltage returns to normal, the SPD automatically reverts to its high-impedance state.
Key Product Characteristics
Maximum Continuous Operating Voltage (Uc): The maximum DC voltage the SPD can safely withstand continuously. This value must be higher than the system's maximum operating voltage.
Nominal Discharge Current (In): Represents the standard capability of the SPD to withstand lightning current impulses with an 8/20μs waveform. It is a key indicator of its performance.
Voltage Protection Level (Up): The peak value of the residual voltage after limitation by the SPD. Given that the Uc requirement is met, a lower Up value indicates better protection for the equipment.
Primary Application Areas
Solar Photovoltaic Systems: Protects the DC input sides of PV arrays, combiner boxes, and inverters.
Energy Storage Systems: Protects the DC sides of battery management systems and storage converters.
Electric Vehicle Charging Facilities: Protects the power conversion modules inside DC charging piles.
Telecom Base Station Power Supplies: Protects -48V telecom DC power supply equipment.
Industrial Automation Control Systems: Protects DC power lines for devices such as PLCs and sensors.
